self portrait project

It took me forever to get motivated about this project I just could not decide WHAT to do. Finaly I just tried to collage a whole bunch of things together that had significance to me. But nothing was related really and to top it all off I could not get the tablet to work, so simple tasks that should have taken me 20 minutes took me an HOUR to do on my teeny-tiny laptop mouse. Over all i put a lot of religous, family background and nostalgic symbolisim. I think that after taking in every ones feed back I am going to stick to a single color schemem and choose a few symbols with a relating theme to work in.

So i chose to stick with a single color scheme and work the symbols into the figure so everything wasn't just floating around my head, much better effect i think and over all not al messy but still incorperating things that are important to me.

My self portrait wit tablet. Super fun, whipped this up in 20 minutes, a lot like glazing in oil painting use pinks in the highlights blues in the shadows, having the pen and tablet made everything a lot easier because of the ability to use pressure and mimic my own pen strokes from the original scanned drawing, to get the effect i want for my self portrait though i will probably need to re do the drawing in ink and re scan it.

Cropping the photo was simple after we saw the websites on alignment of photos. I blurred the background to focus on her face, and though I didn't recolor the photo myself I did try to stick to a basic scheme. I desaturated alot of the background and some of Molly. I tried to keep the hues to light but noticeably vibrant pinks and blues. Desaturating and lightening allowed me to even our skin tone, and then I free hand added extra highlight with the dodge tool, and brought out the pinks in her hair, cheeks, and lips, and up the saturation in her sweater to a more vibrant robins egg blue. ***WILL BE UPLOADING THE ORIGINAL FOR COMPARISON ASAP***

On my superwoman

Molly and I determined that a “hero” can be defined under two categories. The standard marvel tights and cape wearing super hero, and the post 9/11 police officer, firefighter, god deal. SOooo why not the best of both worlds, after all who to have cooler superpowers and to be of better standing than a God? The female deities were so much more beautiful and profound, and the symbolism in older goddesses made for a more interesting composition. One of the more difficult parts of combining images was trying to mesh those that were paintings, digital media and photographs, because the lighting is so different. The blur tool was great to help even out the texture, and the doge helped increase lighting to that of a photo, and burn darkens both midtown, highlight and shadow ranges. And even though cutting is the most painstaking, assimilation in color and lighting was the most important to making the images all cohesive.

This is my superwoman project I did with my partner Molly in ARTE 250! i think she's pretty. ^-^
